In memory of Michael John Bundock

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Mike’s untimely passing. Since joining the HBHRS team just a few months ago, Mike’s warmth and generosity have made me feel so welcome. I will miss his friendship, his passion and boundless knowledge of our local history which he was so willing to share, and our weekly chats on the latest cricket news. Rest in peace Mike.

All the staff at Canterbury Museums and Galleries were shocked and saddened to hear of Mike's death. He was a lovely man and was always great to work with over the years. He will be missed.

We were so saddened to hear about Mike. As volunteers with HBHRS, we felt privileged to have worked with him. We appreciated and admired his immense local knowledge, many talents and huge enthusiasm - and his openness to improving everything. Our sincere condolences to his family.

Mike was an inspirational figure whose work was a great encouragement to researchers new to Herne Bay. I am tremendously thankful to him for all his help. His careful and rigorous histories create a strong legacy for HBHRS to build on. Thank you Mike.

A pleasure to have known Mike even for a short period - he will be sadly missed by many who knew him.

So many of us had close connections with Mike. He was always helpful, considerate and generous with his time. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, colleagues and HBHRS members.

Personally, I had many very cordial meetings with Mike over the years. My wife (Sandra) and I are proud to be members of HBHRS. We have attended Mike's brilliant Talks and thoroughly enjoyed each one. His immense knowledge, relaxed and clear delivery was engaging and entertaining. He often laced his Talks with a deft touch of humour, delivered with a smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He will be missed by so many for so many reasons. He was taken from us all far too early.

We were so very shocked and saddened to learn that Mike had passed away at such an early age. We have enjoyed so many of his excellent talks on local history. His enthusiasm for the subject was so infectious and his research was so comprehensive. His contribution to history of the local area will be valued in the future. Mike was good company when we met him socially. He was an extremely pleasant and considerate man who will be sadly missed. As enthusiastic historians ourselves we feel privileged to have known him. Our sincere condolences to his wife and family.

I write this on behalf of all members of the Beltinge Gardeners' Society, to express our shock and sadness at Mike's recent passing. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his wife, family and close friends. A wonderful man taken much too soon.

We at the BGS considered Mike as a friend as he had visited us on many occasions over the years as a guest speaker. His energy and enthusiasm for his subject was contagious, and our members were always enthralled by his talks and always left looking forward to his next visit. A popular and knowledgeable man who was a great servant to the town of Herne Bay. He will be missed.

We have enjoyed sharing so much about Herne Bay with you over many years. We are sure the town, and wider community, will miss you for the engaging talks you have given, and for your deep involvement in HBHRS . In addition to historical items of local interest, your knowledge extended to classic cars, and horology too, which you were always happy to give time to chat about on the occasions that we met.

It was such a shock to hear of Mike's passing. He was a fount of knowledge about Herne Bay, and an excellent speaker. We were delighted at our Canterbury Branch last year to be entertained by Mike's impressively-researched talk about the Kent seaside, and it does not seem possible that we will not hear from him again.

So saddened to hear that Mike Bundock had passed away and I offer my condolences to his family. Such a lovely man with a wealth of knowledge regarding local areas and their history. Always approachable and you could guarantee an enjoyable evening when he gave talks at WI and Gardener’s Society meetings. He will be very much missed.

So sad to hear the sad news whilst in Singapore, such a lovely person, you will be missed by so many. RIP Mike.

I was shocked and saddened to hear that Mike had passed away. I have enjoyed listening to many of his talks the last one being at the 90th Anniversary of HBHRS. He was a very special man and will always be remembered for his love and great knowledge of our town.

What a huge loss to the HBHRS and to all who have an interest in Herne Bay and our local history..

Mike contributed so much to the society; he was friendly, approachable, always keen to share his knowledge with others - through his talks and books, informally in quizzes and at meetings. It was a pleasure to chat with him, and through him, I always learned more of the history and development of the town, its buildings and its character. I am also grateful to have participated in the Wednesday history of house workshops he and Margaret did last autumn.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends - he will be very greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mike I only met you a couple of times, at the Society event last October and previously enjoying a great morning with you and a few others at Pettman House. I was firstly impressed with your great knowledge and passion for Herne Bay and your local history in general. However you came across as a really nice guy and a person who was happy to share all that wonderful expertise. I know you will be greatly missed Mike. Best wishes to all your family and friends at this very sad time.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike in Herne Bay when I was Town Centre Manager. He was a lovely man, always positive, knowledgeable and passionate about Herne Bay. MIke also attended my Classic Motor Shows, with his lovely classic. Mike will be sadly missed by so many people. RIP dear Mike.
