Becoming a member
New members are always welcome. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Society, you can join through the website using the form below. Alternatively you are welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings and complete a membership form to join at this visit. The Annual Subscription is £20 per person or £40 for family membership, living in the same household. Subscription payment falls due on the 1st October and runs for twelve months.
Our society has been in existence since 1932, and hold an extensive archive of documents, photographs, paintings, maps and books, which we make available for members to view and use for research purposes. Membership subscriptions help us to support and maintain this collection. Additional membership benefits are as follows:
Membership includes entry to our monthly local history talks and meetings held in Pettman House, Hanover Square, Herne Bay, CT6 5NY. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, starting at 7:00pm, doors open from 6.30pm. Meetings are also open to guests for an entry charge of £3. For those members unable to attend in person, we also provide a zoom meeting access to each talk.
In addition, members will be provided with a personal login to the website. This allows additional access to the projects areas of the website, which currently includes the War Memorial Project and the Setterfield War Diaries. Members have full capability to search each of these sections by using key words, names or places, or to browse all of the documents stored in these archives, which is currently approaching two thousand items.
The society periodically issues newsletters and local interest articles we feel will be of interest for members of the society.
Each member will be issued with a membership card, the production of which entitles the named HBHRS member to free admission to the Herne Bay Seaside Museum.
