The Herne Bay Historical Records Society's collection has a huge range of items, including books, newspapers, maps, brochures, photographs and postcards, all of which we use regularly for research questions and articles that we publish in our books and newsletters. However, one section of our collection that rarely comes out of its protective packaging are the artworks and many of the larger pictures that we have in our archive. We felt it was time to address this, and from this came the idea for the UNWRAPPED! exhibition.
UNWRAPPED! is a selection of 28 items that have been carefully selected from our collection by our Curator, Veronica Tonge. Unfortunately, we can only show a small number of the items that we hold, but we have set out to display a range of items representing the breadth of the collection, and includes artworks in oil, watercolours, and pen and ink drawings, as well as posters, photographs and a few other more surprising items. All of the items displayed have some reference to Herne Bay, whether it is the content, the artist is associated with the town, or in many cases, both are true.
