Mills and Milling in the Herne Bay area

HBP3

Written by the late Harold Gough. Windmills are an important part of our heritage and remain part of our lives today, often appearing as part of the rural landscape. There is evidence of milling activity in this part of East Kent dating back over one thousand years and, in the case of Herne, the windmill can still be seen standing proudly above the more modern development that surrounds it. A background early history is included in this book along with more details of the rural windmills at Herne, Chislet and Hoath, as well as the mill that once stood on the seafront at Herne Bay. The text covers not just the mills but also includes details of the people who owned and operated these important aspects of our economic history. Numerous period images are included in the text.
