Written by John Fishpool, this is a companion volume to ‘A Town At War – Herne Bay in the Second World War’ (HBP 5). It is published to coincide with the centenary of the outbreak of a war which it was alleged would be “the war that will end war”. As well as recounting the story of Herne’s Victoria Cross recipient, it details the role of the town in caring for wounded soldiers and the impact of the war on the lives of ordinary men and women.
