A Kentish Christmas

Dr. Mick Lynn entertained a large gathering of members with his seasonal presentation on the customs of A Kentish Christmas over the past centuries at our last meeting of the year. As well as illustrating the history of the origins of some of the folklore and historical events such as wassailing, town waits, the plum pudding riots in Canterbury and the hoodeners in East Kent he played some traditional tunes on his concertina and melodeon. The evening was augmented by the audience being encouraged to sing carols and traditional songs which gave the meeting a lovely festive feel. Mike Bundock Chair thanked members for supplying an abundance of prizes for the raffle run by Valerie Birch and drew their attention to the wide display of society publications which he said could provide excellent Christmas gifts.
